CIVIL EARTHWORKS

LMI Group provides complete solutions for consistent and outstanding results. We work as the principal contractor for diverse civil and environmental engineering projects, and we solve specific problems through the implementation of custom services.

Project delivery

The LMI Group Investments Civil and Environmental Division undertakes a range of civil engineering and construction works for landfill projects. We offer a trusted and complete service, from the procurement of geosynthetic and quarry materials to bulk excavation, onsite QA testing, and commissioning of works.

We have considerable experience as earthmoving contractors and provide access to highly skilled personnel. We have the ability to integrate civil and remediation projects, with internal resources specialising in earthworks, geosynthetics, and haulage.

Our team has access to internal bulk transport fleets, final disposal sites, and resource recovery facilities to ensure correct disposal and maximum recycle efficiency. We have bulk excavation capacity to minimise project management and disposal costs, and we utilise advanced industry software for accurate designs, estimations, scheduling, and documentation.

MATERIALS

We have access to the following materials to ensure consistent and high-quality results.

Aggregates

Construction aggregates are used as a base material for roads, railways, and other structures that require stability. Due to their high hydraulic conductivity value, they are widely used in landfill and drainage applications, including septic drains, roadside drains, retaining wall drains, and for filtering around pipes.

LMI’s landfill aggregates comply with the following standards:

• Drainage layer aggregate size is greater than 20 mm and less than 50 mm

• Fines content to be less than 1%

• Aggregate material should not contain limestone or other calcareous materials

Road base

Road base products include several materials, and they are often used in the construction of roads and pavements. Road bases are generally classified as a sub-base or base material and are designed with the correct moisture content and compactivity. Road bases form rigid layers to distribute traffic loading from the pavement surface to the ground beneath.

LMI supplies high-quality road base materials to satisfy project requirements. Our road bases are suitable for road construction and related structures. Our team is able to consistently supply, sample, and test a range of materials to ensure compliance with relevant works specifications and industry requirements.

Fill Materials

Fill materials such as clay, sand, and soil are used for retaining walls, land grading, and other applications. Most select fill used underneath concrete foundations or paving has a low-to-medium plasticity index (PI) to replace or mitigate highly expansive clay materials.

At LMI, select fill soils are qualified prior to and during placement by an experienced project engineer. We provide custom solutions on a job-by-job basis, sampling the material at the source or job site during installation to ensure the best possible results. We provide a range of backfill materials, including stone, structural fill, and recycled products.

Large Rocks

We have access to multiple Australian quarries and provide our valued clients with the highest-quality products and services. LMI supplies the below range of natural large rocks in sizes ranging from 100 mm to 1500 mm.

Granite

  • High load bearing capacity
  • High fracture resistance
  • Harder and more weather-resistant than sandstone

Sandstone

  • Affordable and widely available
  • Diverse range suitable for all projects

Porphyry

  • Hard igneous rock
  • Similar appearance to sandstone but harder and more durable

Decorative Pebbles

We offer a varied, affordable, and colourful range of landscaping pebbles and stones to enhance landscaping projects and home builds. If you need a greater level of definition and variation, we also provide authentic river rocks and stones.

LMI offers the following range of decorative pebbles, with all products delivered in single or double tipper trucks at a minimum load of 6 m3 or 9 tonne.

  • Gabion crushed – 50-150 mm
  • Blue grey – 20-60 mm
  • Peaches and cream crushed – 20-40 mm
  • Sandstone crush – 20-40 mm, 40-75 mm and oversize
  • Sandstone tumbled – 20-40 mm, 40-75 mm and oversize
  • Western red washed – 20 mm

Engineering Clay for Landfills

LMI supplies, transports, and installs engineering clay liners for landfill projects. Clay is often used as a liner or capping material for landfill sites. This material is used to isolate potentially polluting waste materials and minimise environmental impacts.

Before clay is used to construct a liner, samples are collected and submitted to measure the soil properties. This enables the development of laboratory compaction and hydraulic conductivity curves to determine the material's suitability as a low-permeability barrier. Clay liners are constructed in series of ‘lifts’, compacted and bonded to achieve the best possible results.

Top Soil

Topsoil is a diverse mixture of sand, silt, clay, and broken-down organic matter called humus. Humus is a rich and highly decomposed organic material mostly made from dead plants, leaves, dead insects, and twigs. LMI supplies imported topsoil from approved sources, with all products free from material toxins, noxious weeds, seeds, and roots.

Crusher Dust

Crusher dust has a number of practical applications in the construction industry. It is a common by-product of the resources sector and offers a range of resounding environmental and economic benefits when compared with other materials.

Crusher dust can be used as a cost-effective filling and packing material around water tanks and blended with natural sands to improve concrete shrinkage and water demand. It is also useful to back-fill trenches, create distinctive textures, and substitute for concrete in the creation of pathways and driveways.
